US President Says Action Against Cuban Government Could Come Soon
Washington, March 18 (QNA) - US President Donald Trump has threatened to take imminent action against Cuba’s socialist government, at a time when the island was facing a worsening electricity crisis due to the halt of oil exports from Venezuela.
Trump and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in remarks that the US administration views Cuba as the next country where the United States could expand its influence.
They pointed to the extremely difficult situation facing the island, noting that this was prompting Washington to take action on Cuba very soon.
Rubio, whose parents were Cuban, said the island's economy does not function within a coherent political and governmental system, stressing it cannot be fixed.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel criticized the remarks as US threats against his country, saying in a post on the X that, even in the face of the worst scenarios, Cuba would strongly resist any acts of aggression. (QNA)
