Doha, March 17 (QNA) - HE Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah, and Chairman of the committee for follow-up on the implementation of food security policies, affirmed that the progress achieved by the State of Qatar in its food production system reflects the success of national policies aimed at enhancing self-sufficiency and supporting market stability.

He noted that the country has achieved 99% self-sufficiency in the production of dairy and its derivatives.

His Excellency said that this continued progress underscores the vital role played by national companies in supporting local production and enhancing the sustainability of food supplies, thereby contributing to market stability and ensuring the consistent availability of food products.

This came during an inspection visit by the Minister to Baladna Food Industries, attended by Chairman of the company Moutaz Al Khayyat to review the food security system and strengthen local production.

During the visit, HE the Minister reviewed operations at the farm and production lines at the company’s factories, which cover about 99% of the local market’s needs for fresh dairy products and their derivatives. His Excellency also reviewed the stock of agricultural and industrial production input, which is sufficient to meet the company’s needs for more than ten months, further supporting the stability of food supplies in the local market.

HE the Minister was also briefed by company management on its efforts and capacity to provide dairy products and their derivatives, as well as its ongoing plans to develop the production system and enhance operational efficiency in line with local market needs.

For his part, Al Khayyat said that HE the Minister’s visit reflected the significant attention the state awards to the food production sector. He emphasized the company’s continued commitment to developing its production capabilities and strengthening its contribution to food security while meeting local market demands. Al Khayyat added that the support provided by the state has enabled the company to develop an integrated production system in line with the highest international standards, enhancing its ability to supply dairy products and their derivatives efficiently and sustainably.

This visit is part of a series of inspection tours conducted by the Minister of Municipality several companies and facilities operating in the agricultural, livestock, and food production sectors. The aim is to monitor the readiness of the local production system, review the progress of national projects, and ensure the stability of food supplies and the availability of products in the markets, thereby strengthening the country’s food security system under the current circumstances.
