UK Stresses Criticality of De-escalating Middle East Tensions
London, March 15 (QNA) - UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband stressed the need to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East after US President Donald Trump called on other countries to help secure global oil supplies passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking today, Miliband said: "The plan now must be to reduce the intensity of the conflict" in the region.
A spokesperson for the UK Ministry of Defense said earlier: "We are currently discussing with our allies and partners a range of options to ensure the security of shipping in the region".
Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform, said: "Many countries, especially those affected by Iran's attempted closure of the Hormuz Strait, will be sending warships, in conjunction with the United States, to keep the Strait open and safe".
He added: "We hope China, France, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and other nations will send ships to the area". (QNA)
