Turkish FM Tells Iranian Counterpart Violation of Turkiye's Airspace Unacceptable
Ankara, March 10 (QNA) - Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stressed that breaching the Turkish airspace is something unacceptable, and Turkiye will continue to take all essential measures accordingly.
This came in a telephone call between him and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, as reported by sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry, in the wake of two incidents of this type that transpired in a week.
Fidan called, during the call, that all parties should refrain from any steps that would compromise the regional security or endanger the civilians.
For his part, Araghchi clarified that the missiles that headed toward the Turkish airspace hadn't been launched from Iran, stressing that a wide and sweeping probe would be launched accordingly.
On Monday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned the Iran's ambassador to Ankara to inform him of Turkiye's dismay over the incident of ballistic munition that was launched from Iran and entered the Turkish airspace.
Ankara announced that the NATO Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean neutralized a ballistic munition launched from Iran that had entered Turkish airspace, adding that fragments of the projectile fell on uncrewed territory in the province of Gaziantep in southern Turkiye.
Last Wednesday, the Turkish Defense Ministry announced that IAMD tracked a ballistic munition fired from Iran toward the Turkish airspace and had been vaporized. (QNA)
