Kuwait, March 10 (QNA) - The State of Kuwait has dispatched once again two identical letters to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the UN Security Council regarding the developments in the savage Iranian aggression that has been continuing against Kuwait since Feb. 28.
A statement by the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry on Tuesday reported that the two letters highlight the armed aggression Kuwait has been exposed to from Iran, in terms of firing ballistic missiles and drones that targeted its territory and airspace in a flagrant breach of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
It stressed that these acts constitute a gross violation of the Charter of the United Nations, particularly the principle of the prohibition of the use of force, as provided for in Article 2, paragraph 4 of the UN Charter, and amount to a menacing escalation that undermines regional and global peace and security and runs contrary to the principles of good neighborliness.
The two letters confirm the relentlessness of this aggression, albeit Kuwait isn’t party to any ongoing conflict in the region, something that asserts the illegitimate and unprovoked nature of this aggression, the statement read.
The two letters also clarified that the attacks targeted military bases, critical facilities, and civilian infrastructure within the territory of Kuwait, where the air defenses and armed forces successfully countered the vast majority of them in accordance with the approved operational procedures and rules of engagement in effect, noting that these offensives included a number of civilian facilities and critical infrastructure, including Kuwait International Airport, the fuel tanks at the airport, and the headquarters of the Public Institution for Social Security.
As such, the State of Kuwait emphasized that targeting these facilities represents a violation of the international rules-based order and international humanitarian law, which provide protection for civilian facilities and critical infrastructure and prohibit attacking them.
Since the recent dispatch of the two letters to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council on March 3, 2026, two members of the General Directorate of Land Border Security, operating under the Ministry of Interior, have been martyred while discharging their national duty, bringing the total number of Kuwaiti Armed Forces and security personnel who have been martyred to four, the statement continued.
The statement further outlined that the targeting of the United States Embassy in Kuwait constitutes a grave violation of international law and the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, adding in the two letters that the total number of ballistic missiles and drones that have targeted the country since the beginning of this aggression on Feb. 28 until last Sunday reached 234 missiles and 422 drones.
Accordingly, the statement reiterated that Kuwait reserves its full and enduring right to self-defense based on Article 51 of the UN Charter and to take all essential measures to defend its sovereignty, protect its territory, and ensure the safety of its people in alignment with the international rules-based order.
The statement further stressed that the Security Council should uphold its responsibility to safeguard global peace and security, in addition to taking essential measures to halt this aggression immediately and call on Iran to stop its unlawful offensives against the State of Kuwait, the rest of the GCC states, and other countries in the region which are not parties to the conflict.
It likewise called for holding Iran fully responsible for the human casualties and material damages arising from these belligerent acts. (QNA)
