Rights Group Warn of Risks as Occupation Accelerates Plans to Enforce Death Penalty on Palestinian Prisoners
Ramallah, February 09 (QNA) - The Palestinian Prisoners' Media Office warned on Monday of the danger posed by the Israeli occupation prison administration as it accelerates preparations to implement the death penalty law against Palestinian prisoners, following its approval in the first reading.
The office considered this step to mark a more violent phase targeting Palestinian prisoners within the occupation's prisons and detention centers.
In a press statement, the office said that the discussions about establishing a dedicated facility for carrying out death sentences, developing operational procedures, training personnel, and drawing on the experiences of other countries confirm that the occupation is advancing a policy of extermination against prisoners, in clear violation of all international conventions and standards that guarantee the right to life.
The office noted that moving toward the final approval of the law represents a serious shift in the Israeli system of repression, reflecting an extremist tendency to legitimize killing as part of a systematic policy targeting prisoners in detention through medical neglect, solitary confinement, and ongoing mistreatment.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Media Office held the Israeli occupation government fully responsible for the consequences of this escalation and called on human rights organizations and international bodies to assume their responsibilities and take urgent action to halt this dangerous path, which threatens prisoners' lives and opens the door to an even bloodier phase in handling their cases.
