Qatar Charity Launches Alaqraboon Center to Strengthen Social Welfare in Qatar
Doha, February 04 (QNA) - Qatar Charity (QC) has launched the Alaqraboon Center, marking a new and expanded chapter in its efforts to enhance social welfare and humanitarian assistance within the State of Qatar. The Center was established following approval by Qatar Charity's Board of Directors in December 2025.
Executive Director of Alaqraboon Center, Faisal Al Fehaida, said that the establishment of the Center—and the transformation of Qatar Charity's Social Welfare Department into an entity with its own administrative structure—came in response to growing community needs and a desire to further develop Qatar Charity's local social welfare sector, which has grown into one of the organization's largest and most impactful sectors.
He added that the move required the establishment of a specialized entity with greater operational and administrative flexibility, enabling the development of programs and procedures aligned with local needs, while strengthening governance, transparency, and efficiency, and supporting a more sustainable, technology-driven operating model to expand assistance across Qatar.
Al Fehaida expressed his aspiration for Alaqraboon Center to become the leading institutional reference for humanitarian and social assistance within the country, contributing to social development through specialized initiatives grounded in authentic Qatari values and aligned with global best practices.
He indicated that, as part of its upcoming Ramadan efforts, the Center aims to raise QAR 100 million to expand its assistance programs. These include support for low-income families, orphans, widows, divorced and abandoned women, patients, persons with disabilities, debtors, senior citizens, prisoners and their families, workers, students, individuals preparing for marriage, community funds, and emergency humanitarian cases.
Alaqraboon Center represents a natural extension of Qatar Charity's Social Welfare Department and the Alaqraboon digital platform, which provided more than QAR 639 million in assistance within Qatar between 2023 and 2025, benefiting over 324,177 people, with Qatari beneficiaries accounting for approximately 70 percent of the total value of aid.
This year, the Alaqraboon Center plans to implement 32 projects, covering health and education support, as well as various sponsorship programs. It also aims to increase the number of sponsored families from 1,500 to 2,500, alongside seasonal initiatives, particularly Ramadan programs such as food baskets, Khair kitchens, Zakat Al-Fitr distribution, and Eid gifts for orphans.
Alaqraboon Center places strong emphasis on rapid response to emergency cases through an integrated support system, using digital verification and social assessment to ensure efficient delivery of assistance, in line with its broader programs aimed at achieving sustainable social impact and directing support to those most in need.
The Center relies on a network of strategic partnerships, notably with the Ministry of Social Development and Family and the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities, while expanding cooperation with corporate and institutional partners to enhance its social impact.
Qatar Charity has called on philanthropists, institutions, and the private sector to support Alaqraboon Center—especially during Ramadan—to expand its assistance and advance sustainable social welfare efforts in Qatar.
Inquiries can be directed to the Center's hotline at 4004 2400, available via phone or WhatsApp. (QNA)
