Egypt, UK, Italy Hold Talks on Regional Developments
Cairo, February 04 (QNA) - Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke on the phone with National Security Adviser of the United Kingdom Jonathan Powell to discuss the regional state of play, a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry reported on Wednesday.
The statement added that during their call both sides discussed the developments in Iran, with Abdelatty stressing the importance of continuing to contain and de-escalate the tension to avoid the region plunging into new cascades of instability. He noted the extensive Egyptian contacts that push for political and diplomatic solutions.
It is imperative to have the supportive conditions in place to resume the US-Iran dialogue pertaining to the Iranian nuclear issue, culminating in a comprehensive settlement that observes the interests of various parties and supports regional and global security and stability, Abdelatty underlined.
Regarding the developments in the Palestinian cause, Abdelatty stressed that it is important for the international community to undertake its responsibilities to ensure the implementation of the requirements of the second phase of US President Donald Trump's plan, back the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), as well as the swift deployment of the International Stabilization Force (ISF) to monitor the ceasefire.
These steps, he said, would pave the way for early recovery and reconstruction based on a comprehensive approach according to the Palestinians' needs in the enclave and ensure constant and unhindered flow of humanitarian aid.
With respect to the developments in Sudan, Abdelatty underscored the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce ahead of forging a comprehensive ceasefire. He stressed the importance of combined regional and global efforts to launch a comprehensive political process with Sudanese ownership and establish safe humanitarian corridors to ensure the unhindered flow of humanitarian aid to the people of Sudan.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's enduring supportive position for respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sudan and safeguarding its national institutions. He outlined the efforts Egypt is undertaking as part of the Quad mechanism.
In another phone conversation, Abdelatty discussed with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani the developments related to the Iranian nuclear file, as well as strengthening the bilateral relationship.
Both ministers shared viewpoints on the rapid developments with respect to Iran, with Abdelatty stressing the priority that Egypt gives at this delicate time for de-escalation through shoring up political and diplomatic paths that inhibit the expansion of the scale of crises and protect the security and stability of the region.
Abdelatty further stressed the importance of combined regional and global efforts to have the conducive environment in place to resume the dialogue between the United States and Iran, culminating in reaching a comprehensive and balanced accord that takes into account the interests and concerns of all parties and contributes to bolstering security and stability on the regional and global stages.
