KPI Signs Agreement with Italy's Eni to Build Biofuel Production Complex
Kuwait, February 3 (QNA) - Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI) signed an agreement on Tuesday with Italy's Eni to build an industrial complex for biofuel production in Italy.
This took place during the Kuwait Oil & Gas Show and Conference 2026.
According to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), KPI CEO Shafi Al Ajmi confirmed that the complex will utilize Eni's proprietary Ecofining technology, which converts waste vegetable oils into 100% renewable biofuel with an annual production capacity of 500,000 metric tons. The complex will be designed to ensure maximum operational flexibility for the production of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
Al Ajmi noted that these fuels are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 65 percent compared to conventional fossil fuel blends, supporting decarbonization efforts across land, sea, and air transport sectors. (QNA)
