China Decides Not to Impose Additional Tariffs on Some Canadian Imports
Beijing, February 27 (QNA) - China's Ministry of Commerce announced that it has decided not to impose additional tariffs on some imports from Canada, effective from March 1 to Dec. 31, 2026.
The ministry explained that these tariffs had been imposed earlier as part of an anti-discrimination investigation, without providing further details.
This move comes after Canada pledged to significantly reduce import duties on 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles, helping to mend a trade rift that had strained relations between the two countries.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said in a statement that China is ready to work with Canada "to promote sound, stable, and sustainable development of China-Canada relations."
This breakthrough comes after a prolonged period of tensions following Canada's imposition of tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, steel, and aluminum in 2024. This prompted Beijing to retaliate by imposing a 100% tariff on rapeseed. (QNA)
