Instagram to Alert Parents if Teens Search Self-Harm Content
Washington, February 26 (QNA) - Instagram announced it will start notifying parents if their teenage children repeatedly search for terms related to self-harm within a short period.
The move, highlighted in a statement by the Meta-owned platform, will apply to parents who have opted into the platform's supervision settings. Alerts aim to help protect minors from potentially harmful content and complement Instagram's strict policies against content promoting or glorifying suicide or self-harm.
The announcement comes amid growing global pressure on governments to adopt stricter online protections for minors.
Australia has already restricted social media use for children under 16, while the UK, Spain, Greece, and Slovenia are exploring similar measures to safeguard young internet users. (QNA)
