Tehran, February 22 (QNA) - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that a new round of negotiations between Iran and the United States is likely to take place in Geneva next Thursday.

In remarks published on Sunday, Iran's Mehr News Agency quoted Araghchi as telling CBS News that Tehran is working to prepare the key elements of a potential deal, adding that negotiators could develop new provisions and finalize a good text quickly if progress continues.

Araghchi said an agreement with Washington is within reach, noting that certain aspects of a future deal could be stronger than the 2015 nuclear accord, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

He stressed that the current negotiations are focused exclusively on the nuclear issue, reiterating Iran's position that it has the right to uranium enrichment for peaceful purposes, including energy production. He added that a mutually acceptable solution regarding enrichment remains possible, confirming that proposals have been exchanged between Tehran and Washington on the matter.

Geneva hosted the second round of talks between the two sides last week, following an earlier round held in the Omani capital, Muscat, on February 6. (QNA)
