Doha, February 02 (QNA) - Five films supported by the Doha Film Institute (DFI) have been selected to screen at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), taking place from February 12 to 22.

The films will be showcased across three of the festival's prestigious sections — Perspectives, Panorama and Forum — highlighting the institute's growing role in backing globally resonant cinema from the Middle East and beyond.

In the Perspectives section, Chronicles of the Siege — a co-production between Palestine, Algeria, France and Qatar — will receive its world premiere. The film is directed by Abdallah Al Khatib. Also screening in the same section is Filipinana, directed by Rafael Manuel, an international co-production involving Singapore, the UK, the Philippines, France and the Netherlands, which will have its European premiere.

The Panorama section will feature two world premieres: Only Rebels Win, directed by Danielle Arbid, a co-production between France, Lebanon and Qatar; and Safe Exit, directed by Mohamed Hammad, produced across Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Germany and Qatar.

Meanwhile, the Forum section will host the world premiere of Day of Wrath: Tales from Tripoli, directed by Rania Rafei, a Lebanese-Saudi-Qatari co-production.

Commenting on the selections, Fatma Hassan Alremaihi, Chief Executive Officer of DFI, said: "Having five supported films selected at this year's festival is a powerful affirmation of our mission to champion courageous storytelling and amplify important voices from our region and beyond.

"These films speak to the complexity of our world with honesty and artistic integrity, reinforcing our belief in cinema's ability to question, connect and reframe how we see the world."

The strong presence of DFI-backed films at the Berlinale underlines the institute's standing as a key partner for leading international film festivals and its ongoing commitment to nurturing diverse cinematic voices on the world stage. (QNA)
