Suita, February 19 (QNA) - Japan's Gamba Osaka booked their place in the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League Two 2025-26 with a 2-1 home victory over South Korea's Pohang Steelers on Thursday.
Playing in Suita, Gamba Osaka edged a closely contested second leg to progress 3-2 on aggregate after last week's 1-1 draw in Pohang.
The Japanese side made the most of home advantage, overturning the deadlock in a finely balanced tie to secure their passage into the last eight of Asia's secondary club competition.
Pohang, who had held Gamba to a draw in the first leg, were unable to find the decisive response away from home.
In Sydney, Thailand's Bangkok United also advanced to the quarter-finals after a 2-2 draw against Australia's Macarthur FC in the second leg of their last-16 encounter.
Having claimed a 2-0 victory in the first leg in Pathum Thani, Bangkok United progressed 4-2 on aggregate. Despite Macarthur's efforts to overturn the deficit on home soil, the Thai side did enough to see out the tie and confirm their spot in the next round.
Both Gamba Osaka and Bangkok United now await the quarter-final draw as they continue their pursuit of continental silverware. (QNA)
