Paris, February 18 (QNA) – The French meteorological service announced that France has experienced 35 consecutive days of rain, the longest such streak since records began in 1959, surpassing the previous record of 32 days set in 2023.

In a statement released Wednesday, the service explained that this rainy period began on January 14 and continued until February 17, with an average daily rainfall exceeding 5 mm at each weather station. Total rainfall in some areas exceeded 150 mm over the two months.

The statement added that these heavy rains led to localized flooding in several regions, particularly in western and southwestern France, where river levels reached critical levels.

French authorities have placed a number of provinces on high alert, while the agency warned of the continued risk of floods and mudslides due to the soil becoming saturated with rain. (QNA)
