5.7-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Indonesia
Jakarta, February 18 (QNA) - An earthquake measuring 5.7 magnitude on the Richter scale struck southeast of the Maluku Islands in western Indonesia, with no casualties or damage reported so far.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 167 km, southeast of the Maluku Islands at a depth of 112 km, the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported.
Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes, as it is located on the Pacific belt known as the Ring of Fire, where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity. (QNA)
