24 Killed, Including 11 Soldiers, in Armed Attack in Northwestern Pakistan
Islamabad, February 17 (QNA) - Twelve militants and eleven soldiers were killed on Tuesday in an attack targeting a security checkpoint in the Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in northwestern Pakistan.
In a statement, the Pakistan Army said that 12 militants, 11 security personnel, and one civilian were killed when assailants attempted to storm a joint checkpoint operated by security forces and law enforcement agencies in Bajaur. After failing to carry out their planned assault, the attackers detonated a car bomb at the site.
Following the incident, President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the armed attack, reaffirming Islamabad's determination to continue its war against terrorism until it is completely eradicated.
Earlier, the army had announced the killing of three soldiers and three militants during a separate security operation in the country's northwest, where it has intensified operations against armed groups entrenched in mountainous areas. (QNA)
