Doha, February 14 (QNA) - Director of the Qatar TotalEnergies Open, Saad Al Mohannadi, said the tournament continues to set new standards as one of the high-stakes competitive stops on the WTA Tour calendar, after Saturday's champion, Czech player Karolina Muchova, earned her first title in tournament history.

Al Mohannadi told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that he was proud of the record-breaking success achieved by this year's edition across all fronts, as the success this year was the result of a collective effort, starting with the WTA, continuing with the organizing committee, and culminating with the players who delivered high-quality performances throughout the event.

He added that the matches were strong and exciting, reflecting the high level of competition at the Qatar tournament, and that the final was remarkable in every respect, both in terms of play and atmosphere.

The conditions were ideal, and the fantastic crowd created an electric atmosphere, which helped the championship match conclude in a truly memorable way, Al Mohannadi emphasized.

Al Mohannadi noted that expectations may have leaned toward young Canadian Victoria Mboko- after her impressive results, including wins over two top-10 players, Russia's Mira Andreeva and Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina on her way to the final- but Czech Karolina Muchova also delivered an outstanding performance and proved she deserved the title, especially after coming back strong following a period out with injury. She put together a great tournament and earned the championship.

Al Mohannadi further noted that the Qatar Open has a tradition of crowning new champions, reflecting the strength of the competition and competitive balance.

He added that the organizing committee will continue working to maintain the high organizational standards that distinguish the tournament, further enhancing Qatar's position on the global tennis map and ensuring continued success in future editions. (QNA)
