Ramallah, February 15 (QNA) - The Palestinian Presidency has warned of the serious consequences of the Israeli government's decision allowing it to declare lands in the occupied West Bank as state property.
In a statement on Sunday, the presidency considered this move as a grave escalation and a flagrant violation of international law and the international legitimacy resolutions.
The statement pointed out that this rejected and condemned Israeli decision amounts to de facto annexation of occupied Palestinian territory and signals the beginning of the implementation of annexation plans aimed at entrenching the occupation through illegal settlement expansion.
The said the step effectively nullifies signed agreements and clearly contradicts resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, particularly Resolution 2334, which affirms that all Israeli settlement activity in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, has no legal validity and constitutes a violation under international law, the statement continued.
It stressed that the unilateral measures won't give the Israeli occupation any legitimacy on the territory of the State of Palestine and won't alter the legal and historic fact either that the West Bank, including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, are occupied Palestinian territories in accordance with international law and international legitimacy.
The statement called for a global spring into action to halt these perilous Israeli measures and compel the occupation to live up to the international legitimacy resolutions and international law to achieve de-escalation.
Earlier today, the Israeli occupation government signed a bill that provides for initiating the settlement measures and registering territories in the West Bank, for the first time since 1967.
The motion allows registering large-scale areas in the West Bank as state lands, opening the room for taking over these lands by the Israeli occupation. (QNA)
