Munich, February 15 (QNA) - President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev expressed hope that a peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan could be signed in 2026. He made these remarks during a panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference.

"I hope we will sign a peace agreement this year", Aliyev said, noting the new situation on the border from August 2025 up to now, as there has been no shooting, no victims, no wounded, and no problems.

He added that Azerbaijan is moving toward cooperation with Armenia, starting with the lifting of restrictions on cargo transportation through Azerbaijan. "We are grateful to our Georgian friends that they provide very important transit after the goods reach Azerbaijan and then go to Armenia through Georgia. We also started the supply of oil products to Armenia, and thus actually started mutual trade", the Azerbaijani President said.

Talks between Baku and Yerevan witnessed progress following a meeting held on August 8, 2025, that brought together President of Azerbaijan and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan with US President Donald Trump. The talks resulted in both parties agreeing to cooperate with Washington and third parties to establish what has been called the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), which includes the opening of transport routes between mainland Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through Armenian territory.
