AU Commission Chief Calls for End to Palestinian Genocide, African Conflicts
Addis Ababa, February 14 (QNA) - Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssef, on Saturday called for an end to the extermination of Palestinians and armed conflicts in various African countries.
In the Middle East, Palestine and the anguish of its people are challenging the African conscience. The extermination of those people must stop, said Youssef in his opening remarks at the 39th African Union Summit.
Youssef further delved into the ongoing conflicts in Africa, adding that from Sudan to the Sahel, and from eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo to Somalia and beyond, peoples still pay a heavy price for instability.
He stressed that silencing the weapons is difficult, suggesting that political and institutional fragility in a number of African nations is concerning, with conflicts-whether open or latent-becoming chronic.
The summit kicked off today in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, convening broad participation from heads of state and governments across Africa and the world. (QNA)
