Arab League Discusses Establishing Electronic Registry Platform, Network of Technology, Innovation Support Centers
Cairo, February 15 (QNA) - The 16th meeting of the Technical Committee on Intellectual Property was held today at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
In a statement, the League of Arab States indicated that the meeting discussed several topics, most notably the project to establish an Arab electronic registry platform with the support of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and the project to launch a regional network of technology and innovation support centers in Arab countries.
The meeting also addressed the challenges facing copyright and related rights in Arab countries and ways to confront them, especially in light of the development of artificial intelligence.
The meeting's agenda, chaired by Algeria, also included the recommendations of the 15th meeting of the Technical Committee on Intellectual Property, and follow-up on the recommendations of the subcommittees (the Industrial Property Subcommittee and the Copyright and Related Rights Subcommittee), in addition to discussing the progress made in the work of these committees.
The Technical Committee for Intellectual Property consists of government officials from the intellectual property offices in Arab countries (industrial property offices and copyright and neighboring rights offices), and it is responsible for setting rules for cooperation between Arab countries in the field of protecting intellectual property rights, promoting Arab awareness regarding intellectual property issues and encouraging innovation.
