Doha, February 14 (QNA) - Secretary General of Qatar Tennis, Squash, Padel, and Badminton Federation Tariq Zainal praised the success of the Qatar TotalEnergies Open 2026, which concluded today at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex with Czech player Karolina Muchova winning the title.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Zainal said he was delighted with the great success of this year's Qatar TotalEnergies Open, which was exceptional on all levels.
What was witnessed this year is not just another successful edition of a prestigious tournament, but a comprehensive experience reflecting the significant development in organization and vision, he stated , adding that this was further enhanced by the victory of a new champion, Czech player Muchova, who delivered outstanding performances throughout the tournament and capped her performance with a win in the final against Canada's Victoria Mboko, who also played exceptionally well.
The Secretary General of the Qatar Tennis Federation noted that the large spectators also contributed to the tournament's great success, making this edition the most attended in the tournament's history. This is a clear indication of the public's confidence in the Qatar TotalEnergies Open.
He pointed out that the Qatar Tennis Federation was keen to develop the Khalifa International Tennis Complex and its facilities to keep pace with the tournament's great success and its growth after it was elevated to a 1000-point event. This development was met with admiration and approval from everyone, not only from the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) and the participating players, but also from the large crowds who attended to enjoy the tournament's competitions in the exceptional atmosphere provided for them at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
What happened in Doha this year during Qatar TotalEnergies was not merely a tennis tournament, but a renewed affirmation that Qatar is not content with simply hosting global events. Instead, it actively develops them, elevating their character and transforming them into exceptional sporting and public experiences, Zainal said, while considering the success of the tournament as a new historical milestone for Qatari sports. Since 2001, Qatar has been the first country in the Middle East to host a major professional tennis tournament, and the tournaments are raising to the highest organizational levels, and this is something they are proud of as it consolidates Qatar's leading position on the global sports map.
