MECC Showcases Biodiversity Protection Efforts at Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition 2026
Doha, February 14 (QNA) - The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) is participating in the 13th edition of Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition (AgriteQ), organized by the Ministry of Municipality at the Katara Cultural Village, from 12 to 16 February.
The ministry's participation includes a dedicated pavilion showcasing its efforts to raise environmental awareness, promote sustainability concepts, and protect biodiversity, highlighting its role in supporting environmental innovation and encouraging sustainable practices.
In this regard, Director of the Public Relations and Communication Department at the ministry, Dr. Farhoud Al Hajri, stated that participating in the exhibition represents an important opportunity to enhance engagement with the community and highlight the ministry's environmental initiatives, contributing to spreading a culture of sustainability and raising awareness of the importance of protecting natural resources and biodiversity in Qatar.
Al Hajri explained that the pavilion includes a collection of wild and aquatic plants, in addition to introducing "Seed Scattering" initiative aimed at supporting natural vegetation, and "Rawda Fencing" initiative, which seeks to protect natural areas and enhance their environmental sustainability.
He added that the pavilion also highlights the national campaign to remove the invasive Prosopis juliflora tree as part of the ministry's efforts to limit the spread of non-native species and maintain ecological balance. A digital interactive screen displays a map of Qatar showing whale aggregation areas, turtle nesting sites, dugong habitats, and information on natural reserves, islands, and freshwater marshes.
Director of the Wildlife Department at the Ministry of Environment, Khalid Al Mohannadi, said that the pavilion reflects the ministry's ongoing efforts to protect wildlife and terrestrial and marine ecosystems through initiatives and projects aimed at conserving biodiversity and promoting the sustainability of natural habitats, in line with national environmental protection strategies.
Al Mohannadi added that the ministry's participation in the exhibition aligns with its vision to enhance community engagement and encourage individuals to adopt environmentally friendly behaviors, supporting sustainable development for current and future generations. (QNA)
