Doha Agriculture & Food Security Forum Explores Production, Sustainability Solutions
Doha, February 14 (QNA) - The Agriculture and Food Security Research Forum, held on the third day of the Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition "AgriteQ 2026", explored cutting-edge research solutions that support domestic production and avenues for boosting the food security system in the State of Qatar.
Bringing together an elite group of researchers and experts, the forum addressed a trifecta of core themes: converting agricultural waste into sustainable economic value, enhancing production efficiency in controlled environments and greenhouses, and reviewing smart agriculture applications and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies for livestock monitoring and improved resource allocation.
Participants emphasized that scientific research and innovation are core pillars for enhancing agricultural production efficiency, reducing emissions, and strengthening the resilience of food supply chains -thereby contributing to sustainability and achieving national food security.
In this context, the Ministry of Municipality participated with an outstanding booth showcasing its efforts in agriculture, food security, and sustainability. The booth included a section for children to learn about recycling awareness through workshops and interactive panels, alongside a virtual simulation experience of the environment and marine life using virtual reality technology, which enhances environmental awareness across all community groups.
The booth also featured a diverse program of activities and workshops aimed at promoting a culture of smart agriculture and modern production methods.
Additionally, AgriteQ 2026 highlighted the notable participation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as Guest of Honor, through a dedicated booth intended to strengthen cooperation in the agricultural sector and food security.
The Saudi booth showcased major milestones of the agricultural sector under Saudi Vision 2030, spotlighting the adoption of cutting-edge agricultural technologies, improving the efficient use of natural resources, supporting investment in food supply chains, and advancing initiatives in smart agriculture, water management, and livestock development.
The event also featured a live cooking section aimed at shoring up public awareness of healthy cooking methods, demonstrating the use of local plants and herbs in preparing nutritious dishes that reflect the richness of Qatar’s environment and plant diversity.
This emphasizes the nutritional value and environmental importance of local ingredients, enhancing national food identity and supporting a culture of sustainable local consumption.
