Security Council Welcomes Comprehensive Syrian Government-SDF Agreement
New York, February 13 (QNA) - The United Nations Security Council has welcomed the comprehensive agreement reached between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which provides for a permanent ceasefire and the phased integration of northeastern Syria into the country's civil, economic, administrative and military institutions.
In a press statement, Council members welcomed the accord and reaffirmed their strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic.
They emphasized that full and sustained implementation of the agreement is critical to protecting civilians, ensuring safe and unhindered humanitarian access, and advancing Syria's stabilization and recovery efforts.
The Security Council also welcomed Decree No. 13 issued by Syrian President Ahmad Al Sharaa, which guarantees cultural, civil and citizenship rights for Syrian Kurds. Council members encouraged continued efforts to promote inclusive governance, integrate Kurdish representatives into state institutions, and facilitate the safe and voluntary return of displaced persons.
Members further commended steps taken by the Syrian authorities to combat the ISIS group and stressed the importance of preventing any security vacuum in and around detention facilities in northeastern Syria, underscoring the need for effective and coordinated management arrangements.
Reaffirming the importance of international cooperation, the Council called for enhanced coordination between the Syrian government and the international community to support humanitarian operations, assist displaced populations, and reinforce efforts aimed at countering terrorism and preserving regional stability.
