Cairo, February 11 (QNA) - The Shura Council took part in a meeting of the temporary diplomatic committee of the Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (AIPU), held on Wednesday in Cairo, Egypt.

The Council was represented at the meeting by HE Dr. Sultan bin Hassan Al Dosari, member of the Shura Council and member of AIPU's temporary parliamentary diplomatic committee and Executive Committee. HE Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council, member of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and Vice-Chair of the IPU Arab Group, participated via videoconference.

The meeting discussed several items on its agenda, most notably the preparation of a draft emergency item that the Arab Group intends to submit during the 152nd IPU Assembly in Istanbul in April.

Participants also reviewed proposed amendments to the voting mechanism on emergency items during the IPU Assembly, in addition to drafting a coordination agreement with the African Group within the IPU and enhancing prior coordination with geopolitical groups in the Union.

Separately, the Temporary Diplomatic Committee held a virtual meeting with a delegation from the IPU, during which the IPU's strategy was reviewed, along with ways to strengthen and further develop cooperation between the Arab and international parliamentary unions. (QNA)
