Kuwait Hosts 22nd Session of Executive Bureau of Council of Arab Information Ministers
Kuwait City, February 11 (QNA) - The 22nd session of the Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Information Ministers convened in Kuwait on Wednesday.
In his opening remarks before the session, Minister of State for Communication Affairs and Information Technology of Kuwait, Omar Al Omar, said that the rapid regional and international evolutions require combined Arab media efforts and the building of a responsible media discourse capable of keeping up with changes, protecting public awareness, and serving the causes of the Arab nations.
The Palestinian cause remains central in the Arab media discourse, as Kuwait stressed its enduring commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights until their independent state is established, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, Al Omar underlined.
Al Omar further emphasized Kuwait's unwavering commitment to backing this cause with all means it wields, adding that media today has become a fundamental partner in crisis management and creating awareness amid the rapid development of digital media and AI-powered technologies, triggering a double responsibility in confronting rumors, bolstering credibility, and redirecting media rhetoric in service of social stability.
For his part, Arab League Assistant Secretary-General for Media and Communication, Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, stressed that what matters most here is to double down on efforts to trigger the global conscience regarding the anguish facing the Palestinian people, in terms of oppression, injustice, and deprivation.
He suggested that it is essential to underscore the effective role Palestinian journalists undertake in conveying the facts about the painful humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and monitoring settler assaults in the West Bank.
Khattabi pointed out that these measures require collective action in terms of media support, especially when it comes to effectuating executive mechanisms of media mobilization abroad. He emphasized that leveraging digital and social media platforms is essential to boost the wave of global solidarity in alignment with the legitimacy of the Palestinian cause.
The media and communications sector at the General Secretariat of the Arab League is committed to pursuing the decisions rendered by the Council of Arab Information Ministers and executing the work strategies and plans, thereby contributing to ramping up and diversifying the areas of inter-Arab media collaboration and creating media that wields global components and criteria to address the challenges engulfing the region, including combating terrorism and extremism, as well as rectifying stereotypes about the Arab world, Khattabi noted.
He clarified that the session has an array of recommendations that the permanent committee of the Arab media has been committed to crafting in collaboration with the Arab League's General Secretariat ahead of their endorsement in the context of following up on the decisions of the Council of Arab Information Ministers.
The foremost of these recommendations, Khattabi said, are the practical enforcement of the Arab Strategy for Media and Information Literacy, as well as the unified plan for addressing the issues of environment and the joint strategy for counter-terrorism, alongside the Arab Media Map for Sustainable Development 2030.
