Bomb Threats Force Passenger Aircraft to Divert, Make Emergency Landings Across Europe
European Capitals, November 5 (QNA) - A series of bomb threats targeting passenger aircraft forced several flights to divert or make precautionary landings across Europe on Thursday, marking the latest in a wave of security alerts affecting air travel across the continent.
Irish airline Aer Lingus said in a statement that flight EI402, travelling from Dublin to Rome, landed safely at Evreux-Fauville Air Base in northern France, approximately 100 kilometres west of Paris, after being diverted as a precautionary measure.
Relatedly, Belgian media reported that an aircraft belonging to Polish airline LOT, was forced to land at Brussels Airport (Zaventem). Meanwhile, Czech news agency CTK, citing a police spokesperson, reported that no explosives had been found aboard four aircraft that received bomb threats and landed in Prague.
In Italy, Rome Airports said a bomb alert had not disrupted operations at Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport. Bulgarian officials, meanwhile, reported that three aircraft had been affected by bomb threats and had made precautionary landings.
Local media reported that a third aircraft, arriving from London, landed in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The incidents came just days after at least seven flights and a cruise ship across Europe received bomb threats on Tuesday, triggering airport disruptions and security checks, although no explosives were found.
No group has claimed responsibility for the threats. The unusual surge in security alerts comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions and a series of unprecedented disruptions across Europe, including drone incursions into the airspace of several European countries.
The latest incidents also coincide with cyberattacks reported earlier this week, in which unidentified hackers disrupted refrigeration systems at supermarkets in several European countries. (QNA)
