Ministry of Culture Holds Workshop on Qatar's 2005 UNESCO Report
Doha, November 03 (QNA) - The Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), held a three-day training workshop Tuesday on preparing Qatar's national periodic report under the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
The workshop brings together around 50 representatives of government entities, private institutions and sectors involved in culture and the cultural and creative industries.
Dr. Salim Dada, Algerian composer and conductor and an international expert in cultural policies overseeing the workshop, said it aims to strengthen participants' capacity to understand the 2005 Convention and its new monitoring framework, study the methodology for preparing quadrennial periodic reports, and identify the data and information required from various entities.
He stressed that the diversity of participating entities is essential to gathering the necessary information and building a comprehensive picture of Qatar's cultural policies and creative industries.
Dada said the workshop is part of UNESCO's capacity-building program for monitoring cultural policies.
He noted that the Convention's monitoring framework was revised and updated this year, introducing new objectives, areas and indicators for upcoming reports.
He added that Qatar is the first Arab country to benefit from a training workshop under the updated framework, allowing it to prepare early for its next periodic report, due in 2027.
The workshop includes introductory and practical sessions to identify the data required for each area, the entities responsible for providing it, and primary information sources, leading to a clear roadmap for preparing the national report.
Dada said quadrennial periodic reports go beyond reviewing cultural policies and measures, providing an opportunity to assess progress, identify challenges and needs, and strengthen dialogue among stakeholders to support the development of cultural policies and creative sectors. (QNA)
