Arab League Condemns Israeli Attempts to Establish Diplomatic Representation in Somaliland Region
Cairo, November 02 (QNA) - The League of Arab States condemned on Monday the Israeli ambassador's presentation of credentials to the authorities of the northwestern region of the Federal Republic of Somalia, known as Somaliland, as well as the laying of a foundation stone for an Israeli embassy building in Hargeisa.
In a statement issued on Monday, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Nabil Fahmy asserted that these actions constitute a flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. He described them as a continuation of efforts, rejected and condemned both regionally and internationally, to establish arrangements with authorities in the country's north aimed at partitioning Somalia and exploiting internal divisions to expand Israeli military and political influence near the Gulf of Aden.
Fahmy emphasized that these unlawful measures do not alter the fact that Somaliland region is an integral part of the Federal Republic of Somalia, reiterating the Arab League's rejection of any official or semi-official engagement with the region's authorities outside the framework of the Somali state's national sovereignty.
He further pointed to the position expressed by the Arab League Council during its extraordinary session on December 28, 2025, and its regular session in September 2026, along with relevant statements from the League, rejecting and condemning Israeli moves intended to partition Somalia.
The Secretary-General of the Arab League affirmed full solidarity with the Federal Republic of Somalia and support for its legitimate institutions, warning of the potential repercussions of such actions on security and stability in the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden. (QNA)
