UN Official Advocates Stronger UN-AU Partnership to End Conflicts
New York, October 07 (QNA) - The magnitude of the intractable challenges overwhelming Africa prompts a stronger UN-AU partnership with a sharp focus on prevention, mediation, and taking swift and accountable measures, said Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to the AU, Parfait Onanga-Anyanga.
Anyanga was speaking during a Security Council meeting on cooperation between the UN and regional organizations, including the AU.
The UN official took stock of the findings of the latest report of the Secretary-General on this partnership, stressing that it records significant achievements while also highlighting an increasingly complex and interconnected peace and security landscape, marked by intractable conflicts and a tangle of endogenous and exogenous factors driving instability.
He explained that the report will focus on three priorities, namely the evolving nature of conflicts, the common factors underpinning instability, and the practical implementation of this partnership in peace support operations. (QNA)
