Israeli Occupation Steps Up Excavation Work Along Separation Line With Syria's Golan
Damascus, October 04 (QNA) - Israeli occupation forces are continuing operations inside Syrian territory, including illegal excavation work along the separation line with the occupied Golan Heights, west of Al-Asha village in rural Quneitra, as part of what they call the "Sufa 53" project.
The official Syrian channel reported Sunday that the Israeli plan calls for an 8-meter-wide military road fortified with earthen berms up to 5 meters high, along with trenches and observation points. The route runs alongside the occupied Syrian Golan within the buffer zone.
The operations violate the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and mark a deeper Israeli push into southern Syria, including attacks on Syrians, arrests and the bulldozing of their land.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry recorded 65 Israeli incursions in July and 52 during the first 18 days of August. It also reported 147 detentions since the start of the year, 49 of whom remain in custody, along with home raids in Quneitra and the Damascus countryside.
Foreign Minister Asaad Al Shaibani said during the 70th session of the IAEA General Conference in September that Israel continues to violate Syria's sovereignty and target its territory. He said regional stability hinges on compelling Israel to return to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and fully withdraw to the lines that existed before Dec. 8, 2024. (QNA)
