Israeli Offensives on Southern Lebanon Are Unacceptable, Says Arab League Chief
Beirut, October 20 (QNA) - Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon are unacceptable, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy said during his current visit to Lebanon, stressing that both the Arab and international communities are responsible for backing Lebanon and bolstering the capabilities of Lebanese institutions to withstand challenges.
Fahmy underlined that he is keen to strengthen multilateral cooperation and turn joint Arab action into limited, concrete political steps. He recalled that the first motion issued by the League's Council at the ministerial level in September tackled the overall Lebanese issue.
The League leveraged an approach to remedy the antecedents of the crisis, particularly the repeated Israeli offensives on the Lebanese borders, which are antithetical to international resolutions and target the Lebanese people and their potential, he clarified.
The League's chief stressed that the Arab thrust is based on augmenting the capabilities of the Lebanese state to provide services to citizens and bolstering the capabilities of the Lebanese military and its national role.
Fahmy emphasized that Lebanon remains at the core of the Arab community's and the League's political commitment to accomplishing the aforementioned requirements. (QNA)
