Tokyo, October 19 (QNA) - Japan's Nikkei index fell on Monday, as concerns over technology sector stock valuations persisted ahead of key earnings reports due this week.

The Nikkei fell 0.62 percent to close at 64,916.70 points, paring losses that had exceeded 2 percent earlier in the session, while the broader Topix index rose 0.04 percent to 4,067.48 points.

Shares in 111 companies in the Nikkei index rose, compared with declines in 108 companies, while shares in six companies remained unchanged.

Taiyo Yuden shares were among the biggest losers, falling 4.85 percent, followed by cybersecurity firm Trend Micro, which declined 4.21 percent, and e-commerce company Mercari, which lost 3.95 percent.

On the other hand, film producer Toho topped the gainers, with its shares surging 7.04 percent, marking its biggest one-day gain since July 2025. Shares in SHIFT, which specializes in software testing services, also rose 5.48 percent, while shares in consulting services company Baycurrent climbed 5.35 percent, recording a record closing high.
