Doha, October 19 (QNA) - Senior officials and security experts discussed on Monday the reshaping of international alliances amid intensifying geopolitical competition and the emergence of increasingly prominent blocs, as part of the Global Security Forum (GSF 2026) in Doha.

The discussions took place on the first day of the forum, hosted by Doha, which provides senior decision-makers with an opportunity to exchange views, assess emerging security challenges and explore practical ways to strengthen international cooperation.

During a session on the realistic alliances in the 21st century, participants stressed the need to develop partnerships and enhance international cooperation to address growing security challenges, while highlighting the importance of more flexible alliances amid mounting pressures, disagreements and limited resources.

The session featured HE Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet for National Security and Intelligence of Canada Dominic Rochon, and HE Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs of the Kingdom of Spain Diego Martinez Belio.

Discussions focused on the importance of alliances in the 21st century and the need to reassess some existing partnerships, particularly as several regions face resource-related challenges that call for more adaptable arrangements.

Participants also highlighted the pressures facing alliances due to geopolitical tensions, regional conflicts, changes in global partnerships and the emergence of new blocs.

The GSF addresses pressures facing international institutions, the growing influence of emerging powers and non-state actors, and the future of multilateral cooperation and collective security.

It also highlights the central role of diplomacy, dialogue and mediation in strengthening regional and global security. (QNA)
