Doha, October 13 (QNA) - HE Shura Council Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim has described HH the Amir's address at the opening of the new parliamentary session as a key guide for national work in the coming period, outlining the country's priorities amid exceptional regional circumstances and rapidly evolving challenges.
In a statement marking the opening of the second ordinary session of the council's second legislative term, corresponding to its 55th annual session, HE Al Ghanim said HH the Amir's address provided a clear assessment of Qatar's current situation and a vision for the challenges ahead.
He said the speech would serve as a framework for the council's constitutional duties, including its legislative and oversight work, and for strengthening coordination with the government to support national development, protect the country's achievements and meet citizens' aspirations.
Al Ghanim highlighted the importance of national cohesion and cooperation among state institutions in light of recent regional developments. He praised the government's handling of exceptional circumstances under HH the Amir's directives, saying it had ensured the continued operation of state institutions, met the needs of citizens and residents, and safeguarded their security and stability.
HE the Speaker added that the Shura Council would continue supporting Qatar's efforts to protect its security and interests and promote regional and international stability. Through parliamentary diplomacy, the council would also seek to encourage dialogue and peaceful solutions, while highlighting Qatar's commitment to peace and resolving disputes through diplomatic means.
Looking ahead, Al Ghanim said the council aimed to build on the legislative and oversight achievements of the previous session and improve the effectiveness of its work and permanent committees.
He said particular attention would be given to issues affecting society and citizens, including family affairs, social cohesion, young people and health, alongside other matters falling within the council's remit.
The speaker also stressed the importance of constructive cooperation between the legislative and executive branches, saying closer coordination would help serve the national interest. He added that the council would seek to strengthen its engagement with the public, respond to citizens' concerns and aspirations, and improve communication with the media to raise awareness of its work and responsibilities.
HE Al Ghanim concluded by thanking HH the Amir for his continued support and confidence in the council, saying this would encourage members to carry out their national responsibilities with dedication and integrity and contribute to Qatar's development and progress. (QNA)
