US Secretary of State: Washington Willing to Work with Current Venezuela Leaders on Basis of Actions
Washington, January 4 (QNA) - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated today that his country is ready to work with the remaining leaders in Venezuela if they make what he described as "the right decision."
In remarks to CBS News, Rubio said that the United States' position will be determined by the actions of these leaders, adding that if they do not make the right decision, his country "will retain several tools of pressure."
US President Donald Trump announced yesterday that his country would assume control of Venezuela's affairs until what he called a "safe and peaceful transition of power" is completed, following the military operation that resulted in the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife and their transfer to the United States, where they will face trial.
Venezuela saw a large-scale US air strike at dawn yesterday targeting military sites and vital facilities in the capital Caracas and the states of Mirande, Aragua and Vargas, including the "Forte Tiuna" base and the "La Carlota" airport. (QNA)
