Ramallah, January 04 (QNA) - The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) recorded a total of 99 abuses committed by Israeli occupation forces against journalists during December 2025.

The abuses reflect a high level of repression and restrictions, with Palestinian journalists now directly targeted, not only as witnesses to crimes but as deliberate targets themselves, PJS said in its monthly report on media freedoms on Sunday.

The report documented serious abuses, including the killing of one journalist while performing fieldwork and the injury of two others due to direct targeting and bombardment.

It also recorded the deaths of two relatives of journalists, indicating the expansion of the targeting to include their families as part of a collective punishment policy.

The abuses included preventing journalistic coverage, 48 cases of detention of journalists, 15 attacks using tear gas and sound bombs during coverage, and two deliberate attempts to mow down journalists, along with nine cases of threats with weapons and six cases of direct verbal threats.

During the same month, PJS documented two cases of physical assault against journalists, the destruction of journalistic equipment during fieldwork, and the decimation of two journalists’ homes as a result of airstrikes.

The report also cited two cases of detention, two instances of summons and security interrogation, and two cases before Israeli courts involving administrative detention.

In this context, PJS recorded two cases of organized incitement through Israeli media outlets and information centers, falsely linking journalists to armed groups.

The Syndicate affirmed that the total violations recorded during December reflect a systematic and comprehensive policy of repression and a dramatic escalation in targeting journalists.

It stressed that these incidents constitute a brazen violation of international humanitarian law, particularly Article 79 of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions, which stipulates the protection of journalists during armed conflicts. (QNA)
