UNESCO, SDRPY Partner to Safeguard Heritage in Yemen
Riyadh, January 31 (QNA) - The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today with the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) to enhance joint efforts in safeguarding Yemeni cultural heritage and supporting the capacities of national institutions concerned with preserving cultural property and identifying sites eligible for inscription on the World Heritage List.
The MoU was signed by UNESCO Representative to the Gulf States and Yemen and Director of its Doha Office, Salah Eddine Zaki Khaled and Assistant General Supervisor of SDRPY, Eng. Hassan Al Attas.
The MoU aims to provide technical support and build institutional capacities in the fields of heritage, culture, and education. It builds upon a previous partnership that included the restoration of the historic Seiyun Palace, support for basic education, and the implementation of cultural and development initiatives that contribute to protecting and revitalizing historical heritage and enhancing its role in sustainable development in Yemen.
