Cairo, January 30 (QNA) - Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Badr Abdelatty discussed regional developments, efforts to de-escalate tensions, and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation during a phone call with Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Abdelatty stressed the importance of coordinated regional and international efforts to ensure the implementation of the requirements of the second phase of the plan put forward by US President Donald Trump, as well as continued support for the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza as a temporary transitional body tasked with managing the daily affairs of residents in the Gaza Strip.
The Egyptian foreign minister underscored the need for the swift deployment of an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire, facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid, and oversee the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. He noted that such measures would pave the way for early recovery and reconstruction based on the needs and priorities of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
Regarding developments in Sudan, Abdelatty briefed the EU official on Egypt's ongoing efforts within the framework of the Quartet, emphasizing the urgency of reaching a humanitarian truce as a step toward a comprehensive ceasefire and the launch of an inclusive, Sudanese-owned political process.
He also highlighted the priority of establishing safe humanitarian corridors and ensuring unimpeded access for aid to the Sudanese people, reaffirming Egypt's firm position in support of Sudan's sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and the preservation of its national institutions.
Abdelatty further called for intensified efforts to de-escalate tensions across the region and prevent further instability, stressing the importance of creating an environment conducive to diplomatic solutions and political settlements that enhance regional security and stability. He underscored the need to create the conditions necessary for resuming dialogue between the United States and Iran on the Iranian nuclear issue, with a view to reaching a comprehensive settlement that takes into account the interests of all parties.
The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union, particularly in the wake of the first Egyptian-European summit, which was held in Brussels last October. (QNA)
