London, January 25 (QNA) - Manchester United defeated league leaders Arsenal 3-2 on Sunday evening in the 23rd round of the English Premier League.

Arsenal went ahead in the 29th minute when Lisandro Martinez scored an own goal, but United quickly equalized through Bryan Mbeumo in the 37th. Patrick Dorgu then gave United the lead in the 50th.

Mikel Merino leveled for Arsenal in the 84th minute, but Matheus Cunha restored United's advantage just three minutes later.

The win lifted United to 38 points, placing them fourth and in Champions League qualification territory, continuing their strong run under interim manager Michael Carrick, who replaced Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim.

Arsenal, meanwhile, suffered their third defeat of the season and remained on 50 points, four ahead of Manchester City and Aston Villa. City had beaten Wolverhampton 2-0 on Saturday, while Villa defeated Newcastle 2-0 earlier Sunday.

Elsewhere, Chelsea deepened Crystal Palace's struggles with a 3-1 victory, moving into fifth place with 37 points, one ahead of sixth-placed Liverpool. Nottingham Forest earned a crucial 2-0 win at Brentford, climbing to 25 points in 17th place, while Brentford stayed eighth with 33. (QNA)
