Kabul, Jan. 24 (QNA) - Afghan authorities announced that heavy snowfall and torrential rains have claimed the lives of at least 61 people over the past three days across several parts of the country.

The National Disaster Management Authority of Afghanistan said today that 110 people were also injured as a result of the severe weather conditions sweeping the country.

In a map published on its official account on the social media platform X, the authority reported that 458 homes were damaged or completely destroyed, particularly in northern and central provinces of Afghanistan.

Earlier, the Emergency Management Department in the southern province of Kandahar announced on Thursday that strong winds and heavy rainfall had caused multiple fatalities and resulted in significant material losses in several areas, noting that the storms also caused damage to residential buildings.

Meanwhile, a landslide triggered by heavy rains was reported in eastern Nuristan province, while snowfall accumulated to approximately 80 centimeters, forcing authorities to close markets and block roads. (QNA)
