Al Sadd Defeats Shabab Al Ahli to Claim Qatar-UAE Super Shield
Doha, January 24 (QNA) - Al Sadd captured the Qatar-UAE Super Shield after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Shabab AlAhli Dubai FC on Saturday at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, in the third edition of the competition featuring eight clubs, four from each country.
Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino scored twice, first from the penalty spot in the 55th minute and again deep into stoppage time, while Akram Afif added a goal in the 74th minute.
Shabab Al Ahli's goals came from Yuri Cesar in the 30th minute and Mohammed Juma in the 78th.
Al Sadd pressed early, with Rafa Mujica and Firmino both testing the Emirati defense in the opening quarter-hour. Afif nearly broke through in the 18th minute, weaving past defenders before sending a cross that went unanswered. Giovanni Henrique also forced a save in the 21st minute.
Shabab Al Ahli responded strongly midway through the first half, with Cesar narrowly missing before eventually putting his side ahead with a powerful strike in the 30th minute. Federico Cartabia also came close with a shot over the bar.
Al Sadd equalized after halftime when Afif was fouled in the box and Firmino converted the penalty. The Qatari side continued to dominate, and Afif gave them the lead with a composed finish in the 74th minute.
Shabab Al Ahli fought back, leveling through Juma's header in the 78th minute. But in the dying seconds, substitute Mohamed Kamara set up Firmino, who sealed the win with his second goal in the 96th minute, securing Al Sadd the Qatar-UAE Super Shield title. (QNA)
