Basketball League: Al Wakrah to Meet Qatar SC, Al Gharafa to Face Al Arabi Saturday
Doha, January 23 (QNA) - Two important matches will be held tomorrow, Saturday, between Al Wakrah and Qatar SC, and Al Gharafa and Al Arabi, as part of the second round of the Qatari Basketball League for Men for the 2025-2026 season.
In the first match, Al Wakrah will face Qatar SC at the Al Gharafa Sports Club arena, in a match of particular importance to both teams in terms of the overall standings.
Al Wakrah currently occupy fifth place with 22 points, accumulated from 7 wins and 8 losses. The team seek to strengthen its position among the playoff qualifiers as the competition intensifies and the points gaps between the teams narrow.
Meanwhile, Qatar SC enter the match in eighth place, second to last, with 17 points, achieved from 2 wins and 13 losses. They hope to improve their position in the standings and move away from the bottom of the table, emphasizing the importance of every match at this stage of the season.
In the second match, Al Gharafa will face a tough challenge against defending champions Al Arabi at Al Gharafa Club's arena, in what is considered one of the most anticipated matches of the round.
Al Gharafa enter the match in seventh place with 20 points, accumulated from 5 wins and 10 losses, and aim to achieve a positive result that will boost their chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Al Arabi enters the match in fourth place with 24 points, having achieved 11 wins and only 2 losses, making them the team that had played the fewest matches so far, with 13 games.
The defending champions seek to continue their positive results and maintain their position among the top teams, amidst fierce competition for the top four spots.
Al Rayyan lead the overall standings with 29 points from 15 matches, followed by Al Ahli in second place with 25 points, and Al Sadd in third, also with 25 points. Al Arabi sits in fourth place with 24 points, while Al Wakrah occupy fifth with 22 points. Al Shamal are sixth with 21 points, Al Gharafa are seventh with 20 points, and Qatar SC are eighth with 17 points. Al Khor are at the bottom of the table in ninth place with 15 points from 14 matches.
This fierce competition comes amidst the implementation of the new "play-in" system this season, which has added more excitement and competitiveness to the league.
It gives teams ranked third through sixth an additional opportunity to compete for the title, making every match and every point crucial in shaping the final stages of the competition. (QNA)
