Gaza Death Toll Rises to More Than 71,500, Health Officials Say
Gaza, January 19 (QNA) - The death toll from Israeli occupation's genocide in Gaza has risen to 71,550 people since the war began on Oct. 7, 2023, according to the territory's health ministry.
In a statement on Monday, the ministry said Gaza hospitals had received two bodies over the past 48 hours, one of which was recovered from the rubble, as well as 12 people injured in ongoing incidents.
Officials added that a number of victims remain trapped beneath debris or lying in roads, with ambulance and civil defence crews unable to reach them due to the scale of destruction.
The ministry said that since a ceasefire came into effect in October last year, at least 465 people have been killed and 1,287 injured, while 713 bodies have been recovered from damaged areas.
The ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israeli occupation took effect in October following the withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas of Gaza and the gradual return of displaced residents to the north of the territory.
The truce forms part of the first phase of a broader initiative announced by US President Donald Trump aimed at ending the war in Gaza. (QNA)
