Leverkusen Signs Danish Coach Hjulmand Until 2027
Berlin, September 09 (QNA) - German football club Bayer Leverkusen announced on Monday that it has signed Danish coach Kasper Hjulmand on a contract that extends until June 30, 2027. He succeeds Dutch coach Erik ten Hag.
In a statement on its official website, the German club said it has followed Hjulmand's coaching career over recent years and sees him as the ideal coach to restore the team to competing at the highest levels both domestically and in Europe.
The Danish coach's most recent achievement was leading his national team to the semi-finals of Euro 2021. He later resigned after the team was eliminated from the Round of 16 at Euro 2024 by Germany.
The 53-year-old Hjulmand previously managed the Mainz team during the 2014-2015 season.
Leverkusen, the champion of the league and cup double the season before last, had a shaky start to the new 2025-2026 season.
They lost the first match to Hoffenheim and drew the second with Werder Bremen, earning only one point and placing twelfth in the standings. (QNA)
