Doha, September 04 (QNA) - As part of the Qatar-Argentina 2025 Year of Culture, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a concert at the prestigious Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires on Sep. 17.

The concert combines tango, classical music, and Arab musical traditions.

The concert will feature maestro Enrique Diemecke, celebrates the rich musical dialogue between Qatar and Latin America. The evening features Astor Piazzolla’s iconic Concerto for Bandoneon “Aconcagua”, performed by acclaimed soloist Victor Hugo Villena, as well as works by celebrated Argentine composers Esteban Benzecry and Alberto Ginastera.

Representing Qatar’s contemporary music scene, the Philharmonic will perform compositions by Dana Alfardan and Nasser Sahim, blending cinematic textures with the spirit of traditional Arabic music. This concert offers Doha audiences a unique opportunity to experience the programme that will represent Qatar on one of the world’s greatest stages.

In preparation for this landmark event at the Teatro Colon, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra will begin its Qatar-Argentina Year of Culture tour at the Qatar National Convention Center on Sep. 14.

On this occasion, Kurt Meister, Executive Director of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, highlighted the orchestra's role in promoting cultural exchange through music, noting that this concert is a clear expression of this message and a powerful testament to the universality of music.

Gabriela Ricardes, Minister of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, said: "Qatar has been a distinguished partner this year, and we are excited about the rich autumn season of concerts, art exhibitions, events, and exchanges targeting youth. We are honored to welcome the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra to Buenos Aires, especially on the stage of the historic Teatro Colón. This collaboration embodies the power of cultural diplomacy to deepen mutual understanding and inspire artistic expression across continents."

Founded in 2007, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra is a cultural beacon for the region. It features members from 28 countries, including some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

It has performed at La Scala and the Royal Albert Hall.

Its mission is to blend Western symphonic compositions with Arab musical heritage.

Attendance to the Doha and Buenos Aires concerts is free, representing Qatar's cultural gift to local and international audiences, emphasizing the role of music as a bridge that unites peoples, languages, and history. (QNA)
