2027 Basketball World Cup Organizers, Qatar Olympic Museum Forge Cultural Partnership
Doha, September 01 (QNA) - The Organizing Committee for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 has signed a cultural cooperation and partnership agreement with 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, Qatar Basketball Federation, and the FIBA Foundation (the social and legacy arm of the International Basketball Federation).
The agreement was signed by CEO of Qatar Museums Mohammed Saad Al Rumaihi, and Director General of the 2027 Basketball World Cup Organizing Committee and President of the Qatar Basketball Federation Mohammed Saad Al Meghaiseeb.
The agreement aims to establish a comprehensive framework for collaboration and coordination to implement educational, awareness, marketing, and documentation projects that highlight the legacy of basketball both locally and internationally, while also reinforcing Qatar’s position as a global destination for sports and culture.
As part of the agreement, joint exhibitions and displays on basketball heritage will be held at the 3-2-1 Museum.
The agreement also includes launching community and interactive events both within and outside the museum, organizing educational programs, school visits, and workshops that showcase the history of the sport and its leadership figures. Additionally, local basketball history will be documented through artifact collection and digitization, and FIBA’s historical archive will be made accessible for research purposes.
On the marketing front, the parties will implement joint digital promotional campaigns, develop commemorative merchandise, and create retail opportunities linked to the Basketball World Cup.
In terms of legacy and technical development, plans are in place to establish community courts featuring artistic designs inspired by the Qatar 2027 tournament, as well as to launch initiatives for coach development and the collection of tournament memorabilia to be exhibited or preserved for future generations.
Al Rumaihi affirmed that sports and culture are powerful tools for encouraging community engagement and reinforcing national identity.
Through them, creativity thrives, social cohesion strengthens, and innovation flourishes—each a fundamental building block of a diverse, knowledge-based society.
Al Rumaihi also expressed his appreciation to all partners—the Qatar Basketball Federation and the Qatar 2027 Basketball World Cup Organizing Committee—for their constructive collaboration.
For his part, Al Meghaiseeb expressed his gratitude to HE President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Chair of the Qatar 2027 Basketball World Cup Organizing Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, and to HE Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, for their continued support in advancing both the sports and cultural sectors.
He affirmed that this partnership serves as a bridge between Qatar’s rich sporting heritage and the promising future of Qatari basketball.
Director of 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, Abdullah Yousuf Al Mulla explained during a press conference held on the sidelines of the signing ceremony that this agreement plays a significant promotional, cultural, and educational role in introducing the world to Qatar’s culture and its capability to host major sporting events.
