Sweden, Denmark, and Norway to Purchase Weapons for Ukraine from US Stockpiles
Stockholm, August 05 (QNA) - Sweden announced on Tuesday that it will purchase weapons for Ukraine from US stockpiles, in partnership with Denmark and Norway, as part of a new initiative led by Washington and NATO.
In a statement, the Swedish government said that Stockholm, Copenhagen, and Oslo will jointly provide military aid worth a total of 500 million USD to Ukraine.
The package will include air defense systems, anti-tank weapons, ammunition, and spare parts. This announcement comes just a day after the Netherlands revealed 500 million EUR grant under the same initiative, known as the PURL (Priority Ukraine Requirements List).
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte welcomed the announcement from the three Nordic countries, stating that since the early days of Russia's full-scale invasion, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden have shown unwavering support for Ukraine, and praised their efforts in advancing the initiative.
Last month, US President Donald Trump unveiled a joint project with Rutte, calling on European allies and Canada to purchase American-made weapons - including advanced Patriot systems - to send to Ukraine. (QNA)
